Calculating Journey Times And Lift Speed

Lift speed is shown in m/sec (metres per second). Platform Lifts under the European Machinery Directive are limited to a maximum speed of 0.15m/sec (150mm per second). Therefore, to calculate how long the lift will take to complete a single upward journey you will need to divide the total lift travel by the lift travel speed. Example: Total Lift Travel: 2950mm divide by 150mm = 19.7 (seconds). Please remember that the Platform Lift might have a soft start and soft stop function meaning that the lift will accelerate and then decelerate (in other words, the travel speed is unlikely to be a constant). To this end, the above formula should not be taken as an exact science, but should be used as a guide.
