Understanding Pit Prop / Scotching Devices
A pit prop / scotching device is a safety tool to be used by a qualified Engineer only. It is activated / inserted prior to an Engineer gaining access to the lift shaft (underneath the platform), ensuring that the lift will not move up or down whilst he is working on it.
